Q: I have one blueberry bush, which is about five years old, and this year it produced about one quart of berries. Even though I waited for about a week or more after they were really blue to pick them, they are not very sweet. Is there anything I can add to the soil to improve the flavor? _ Jeanne Nagel
A: Not really. The condition of the soil determines the health of the plant (for blueberries, soil should be acidic). Berry flavor is determined by the particular cultivar and full ripeness. Among both cultivated and wild blueberries, there is a range of sweetness.
You are right to delay harvest for a week to 10 days ...
