It's always a pleasure to discover an artist, even if she is no longer singing. This compilation CD, featuring soprano Luba Tcheresky in arias, songs, show tunes, folk songs and other live performances, reveals an appealingly versatile and dynamic performer. Now a busy voice teacher and coach in New York City, Tcheresky's life and career have been as far-ranging as her musical interests, beginning with her arrival from Russia as a sickly eight-year-old, traveling alone. She mastered several instruments while still in high school, formed an all-gift band, studied at UCLA and at the Music Academy of the West with Lotte Lehmann, gigged around Los Angeles and New York, won some attention in the Met auditions, was hired by important houses in Germany and Switzerland, sang in supper clubs with her friend Vernon Duke, created a stir at Maria Callas's Juilliard Master Classes and raised a family.
