Why has OPERA NEWS allowed a long-dead controversy to be resurrected with anonymous sources and no investigation of the facts? I refer to the article "So Why Do the Grammys Matter?" by Leonard J. Left [in] the February 2004 OPERA NEWS. The author states, alleging corroboration from two unnamed sources, that for three years the Telarc record company paid for all members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to become members of NARAS, "so that they could vote for their own records."
As a longtime ASO staff member and NARAS member, I can deny--authoritatively, emphatically, and on the record--that such a thing ever happened.
Neither Telarc International Corporation nor the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra ever paid for NARAS memberships for anyone in Atlanta or recommended that local members vote for any ...
