DETROIT _ Nashville Predators center David Legwand has been dreaming about this day since he laced up his skates as a 6-year-old.
Legwand, now 23, will make his debut Wednesday night in the NHL playoffs when the eighth-seeded Predators play the top-seeded Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
Legwand learned to skate after his father, Dave, built a rink in the backyard of the family home in Grosse Pointe Woods. David preferred that backyard rink to skating lessons.
"He would come in, eat, and then go back out and skate," said his mother, Carol. "His father even put up lights so he could skate when it was dark out."
