DETROIT _ Tommy Hearns hovers over son Ronald as the young man pulls on his boxing trunks and laces his boots in a dimly lit, musky-smelling locker room at Detroit's Kronk Gym.
Hearns, 45, wants Ronald dressed and ready to skip rope. I'm interested in keeping the younger Hearns where he is, so we can finish an interview. Tommy, a seven-time world champion, throws a mock combination at me, feinting to the right and urging his son to cut the chat and hit the ring.
Despite dad's insistence, Ronald Hearns answers another question. Tommy, who already has wrapped his hands, is growing noticeably restless. I feel nervous but keep on taking notes.
