I was happy to see that there's someone else out there who has noticed your lack of coverage regarding spirulina ("Sharing," February 2004, p. 10). I was a friend of Dr. Christopher Hills, the father of the Green Revolution, back in the 1980s when he began the first farm in California to combine the techniques needed to enhance spirulina so that it would produce extra quantities of some of the carotenoids needed for a healthy immune system. It has been distressing to me that information about spirulina has been largely overlooked.

Recently, researchers at the University of California, Davis did an extensive project testing many of the theories proposed by Dr. Hills and others. Their four-page report proves many claims that had been largely anecdotal before this study was performed. Another great source of information on spirulina is the Library of Congress and I'm fortunate to have a three-page synopsis of the roomful of reports that they have there. You probably realize that spirulina has been used by NASA for their astronauts and is currently being grown in at least 40 countries.
