Unless you're a shut-in, it would have been awfully difficult to miss DEBORAH VOIGT in New York during the month of December. At the Met, she could be heard reprising her portrayal of the Empress in Die Frau ohne Schatten from HERBERT WERNICKE's 2001 production. On December 7, she headlined a special holiday concert of the New York Philharmonic, led by the gifted Tony- and Emmy-winning conductor DONALD PIPPIN. She offered a program that featured some classical works (Handel's "Rejoice greatly") but leaned mostly toward pop: "Toyland," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Let it Snow" and the spoof "The Twelve Days After Christmas."
