VERO BEACH, Fla. _ Jose Canseco struck a blow for literacy Monday.
Canseco, 39, spent the day at Dodgertown, participating in the Dodgers' annual open tryout. But Canseco's performance looked more like the first stop on a book tour than the first step toward a return to the major leagues.
Wearing ``Jordan" warm-up pants (not baseball pants) with the number 521 pinned to his back, Canseco went through an unimpressive workout with 107 other hopefuls, including fellow former major-leaguers Alex Arias, Bryan Rekar, Rusty Meacham, Doug Jennings and Jeff Sparks.
