MIAMI _ The United States has sent seven prisoners from the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Russia, where they face terrorism-related charges that could land them in prison for up to 10 years, American and Russian officials said Monday.
The handoff was the largest transfer of terrorism suspects from Guantanamo to another country so far, and the biggest success to date for the Bush administration in its efforts to persuade other countries to prosecute their citizens who are held at the U.S. naval base.
