WASHINGTON _ Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Monday that he anticipates about 2,000 Marines will take part in peacekeeping operations in Haiti following the resignation and departure of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
About 200 Marines arrived in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince late Sunday, defense officials said, bolstering a force of about 50 already there to protect the U.S. Embassy. Hundreds more are expected to arrive in the coming days.
