WASHINGTON _ If a surging number of Democrats get their way, John Kerry and John Edwards will soon go from being rivals to running mates _ merging their identities in the grand political tradition of Kennedy-Johnson, Clinton-Gore and Tippecanoe and Tyler, too.

Kerry-Edwards is being touted as a dream combo because of their differences: Kerry, North; Edwards, South. Kerry, experience; Edwards, charisma. Kerry, Ivy Leaguer; Edwards, son of a mill worker.

But how would these two guys click personally? Do they even like each other? And does that matter in politics?
