Byline: Bob Wolfley
Turns out there were exactly 38 observations to make about Super Bowl XXXVIII:
I: When you hear that the retractable roof at Reliant Stadium in Houston is going to be closed, if you live in a certain other city, you ask yourself: Does that roof squeak when it moves or leak when it rains, too?
II: The best quality of CBS' lead play-by-play guy, Greg Gumbel, is his poise and ease. He makes it seem easy. But he is not blessed with a big-time, big-game voice, like his colleague Dick Enberg has.
III: Hey, no one told us all day Sunday before the game started which team was the team of destiny. The Green Bay Packers were the last team of destiny we heard about in the playoffs.
IV: CBS' Deion Sanders got it right in pregame when he said a key match-up was going to be Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith against New England cornerback Tyrone Poole.
V: Say this for CBS. The promos for their prime-time shows were not repeated so often during the afternoon they became bombardment. On Fox, those promos are a form of torture.
