SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. _ Give Jonathan Kaye a lot of credit for overcoming his past. Branded as a bad boy after being suspended by the PGA Tour early in 2002, it's all good these days for the longtime Phoenix resident known affectionately as "the Encanto Kid."
His latest positive experience came during Sunday's final round of the FBR Open. Locked in an intense birdie-for-birdie duel with Chris DiMarco, Kaye was the last player standing at the TPC of Scottsdale.
Almost as amazing, Kaye turned a highly partisan Phil Mickelson crowd into his own fan base. The moment of total acceptance came at the 14th hole, where Mickelson lost a share of the lead and was forced into some risky golf that went astray.
