May 15--LOS ANGELES--Microsoft announced Wednesday that it is dropping the price of its Xbox video game system in the United States by $20 to $179.99, effectively immediately.
The move was aimed to make the gaming system -- which has rich 3-D graphics and a high-speed Internet port -- a more attractive deal than that of market leader Sony, which announced a new PlayStation 2 hardware package Tuesday but said the price of its popular system would remain $199.
