May 13--VALLEJO, Calif.--With more than 17,000 different medications available, the potential has grown for patients to get the wrong one at the wrong time, sometimes with serious consequences.

To reduce such errors, Sutter Solano Medical Center began using a high-tech bar-coding system this month designed to catch mistakes before they occur.

The not-for-profit Sutter Health network became the first in California to install the system developed by Bridge Medical in Solana Beach.
