May 3--CAROLINA NEWSPAPERS HIRES EXECUTIVE EDITOR: YORK, S.C.--Carolina Newspapers has hired former Gaston Gazette education reporter William Joshua Lucas to be its new executive editor.
Lucas, 29, graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in American history. While attending the university, he was founding editor of a student-led publication, the Chicago Weekly News.
Lucas has worked at three North Carolina papers, the Rocky Mount Telegram and the Wilson Daily Times and the Gazette in Gastonia.
