Bend it like Jay-Z.
On his latest single, "Beware of the Boys," the American rapper busts his rhymes over East Asian rhythms called"bhangra," the infectious, electronic updating of India's Punjabi folk music. The track, released this month and already in Billboard's Top 50, threatens to make a hip-hop star out of Jay-Z's latest collaborator _ Panjabi MC.
It's Panjabi MC, a 27-year-old DJ of Indian descent from Coventry, England, who last year released the track (called "Mundian To Bach Ke" in Punjabi) in Europe, where it became a hit. Jay-Z heard it and thought it would be cool to do a remix with his vocal.
