FALLUJAH, Iraq _ Seven U.S. soldiers were slightly wounded Thursday in a grenade attack in troubled Fajullah, as a letter turned up purporting to be from Saddam Hussein and urging Iraqis to resist American troops.
"I ask you to throw stones at those invaders," said the letter, dated April 17. "Shoot the bad guys. Let the mosques be your lanterns to the light of faith."
The letter was addressed to the people of Anbar, the governing area that includes Fallujah, a Baath Party stronghold where U.S. forces have killed at least 16 Iraqi protesters over the last several days.
"Iraq is now wounded," the letter said. "Faith is wounded."
The letter called on citizens "to save your town. I have a great hope in you."
The letter's authenticity could not be determined. Copies included the signature of the former Iraqi president.
