Environmental groups sue EPA for weakening Clean Air Act. (News).
WASHINGTON, DC--The Bush administration's changes to the New Source Review provisions provision of the Clean Air Act are illegal and will dramatically increase air pollution, threatening the health of millions of Americans, according to a lawsuit filed February 28 by Earthjustice on behalf of a coalition of environmental and public health groups.
The groups include the American Lung Association, Communities for a Better Environment, Environmental Defense, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Sierra Club. Fifteen states already have filed similar challenges to the new rule, and challenges by other environmental organizations are likely, according to a Sierra Club press release.
