AUBURN HILLS, Mich. _ Detroit Pistons guard Chucky Atkins had just banked in a 39-foot 3-pointer to end the third quarter, cutting the Magic's lead to 76-72. Coach Doc Rivers yelled over to his former player.

"Did you call it?" Rivers asked.

Atkins laughed and shook his head.

"Nah," he said.

No kidding. The Pistons couldn't call their shots, bank or otherwise, in a 99-94 loss to the Magic.

Too many of their shots looked like desperation heaves. The Pistons shot 31.6 percent for the game, missing 30 of their first 38 attempts. They finished just as off target in a tight fourth quarter, clanking …
