I found the message in the article about European supplement laws chilling. Thank God my ancestors moved to America. The article told me little about safety, but a lot about freedom. In Europe, a citizen has only those rights granted to him or her by the government. In America, all rights are granted to the citizen unless the government can come up with a compelling reason to restrict them. I far prefer the American system.

Remember when discussing safely that it is a relative concept. The knife you use to slice your vegetables is inherently unsafe. So is aspirin. Far more people are harmed or killed in this country every year by over-the-counter pain relievers than by all the nutritional supplements combined over any period of time you care to ...
