Crean motivates Golden Eagles straight to Final Four.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)

DETROIT _ He could be considered hokey or a wanna-be psychologist, but Tom Crean always thought he could best help a player reach his potential by understanding and manipulating his motivations.
So when Marquette was playing Tulane in New Orleans in January, Crean took his team on a field trip to the Louisiana Superdome, site of the NCAA Final Four.
They toured the stadium and even took a photo of it. Then they all signed the picture and carried copies with them the rest of the season.
All they were doing was sending themselves a future postcard. The Golden Eagles will meet Kansas in Saturday's national semifinals at the Superdome _ their first trip to the Final Four since 1977, when legendary coach Al McGuire took them to the championship.
