He sure knows his way around elves and hobbits, but can he handle a giant hairy ape? We'll find out when "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson takes on the remake of "King Kong" as his next project.
"I'm making movies today because I saw this film when I was 9 years old," gushed Jackson, whose third entry in the Rings trilogy, "The Return of the King," comes out in December.
The 1933 original "King Kong" starred Fay Wray as a beautiful actress who became the object of the gigantic ape's affections. It was remade in 1976 with Jessica Lange. Jackson's version will have a monstrous budget of about $110 million and will be shot in and around Wellington, New Zealand.
