COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ The Air Force Academy's commandant, reassigned to a Pentagon desk job in the sexual-assault scandal housecleaning, denies blaming victims and failing to take action.

Brig. Gen. S. Taco Gilbert III was targeted by lawmakers after making a comment to a cadet that she believed meant she was to blame for the assault.

Gilbert said the remark was taken "grossly out of context" and that he's always taken a hard line against sexual predators.

The general is among four top officers at the academy who are being removed after an investigation into 56 sexual assaults on female cadets since 1993.
