It must have been the front-page photo of armed and helmeted officers patrolling in front of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York that got me thinking. There is one historical analogy that flashed again and again in my mind: Dictatorships left unchallenged will bring horrors on the rest of the world and will make a mockery of American values and ideals.
