James Brown _ architect of funk, godfather of soul and the source of 10,000 hip-hop samples _ isn't exactly hurting for accolades. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame made him one of its first inductees (along with Elvis and Chuck Berry), and history books list him as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.
But for a guy with so much acclaim, Mr. Dynamite still has to struggle for attention these days. His first new studio album in a decade, "The Next Step," has sold a paltry 9,200 copies since it came out late last year on the tiny Fome label, according to SoundScan.
