DURHAM NC--A report released in December by Jerry Associates, Durham, NC, suggests that distributed generation could help the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) meet the five objectives outlined in its draft energy plan.
President Jerry Jackson notes that Long Island is in the throes of a severe power crisis, made worse by recent damage to a transmission line across Long Island Sound from Connecticut. The report projects LIPA's power needs to increase by 100 MW per year through the year 2011 and notes that electric prices are already among the highest in the country.
