IRBIL, Iraq _ Back in 1975, it seemed like a good idea, naming your son Saddam.
That name, of course, has dark connotations now, especially among the oppressed Kurdish people of northern Iraq. Nobody here would dare name a son Saddam any more, but it's too late for 28-year-old Saddam Ahmed Abdullah.
"When Saddam had power over this area and the people here approved of him, the name Saddam had power," said the dictator's namesake. "It was a special name, and it always drew attention to me."
