AUBURN, Ala. _ Not enough has been said about Florida senior Matt Bonner and perhaps not enough will be, until he has moved on to the NBA.
Long after No. 4 Florida held off Auburn, 73-70, at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, Coach Billy Donovan reflected on this thought.
Donovan was strolling through a tunnel toward a team bus filled with players he hopes will bring him to a second Final Four. How important is Bonner?
"Matt Bonner is one of the best players ever to play for Florida," Donovan said. "He is a special player who can be mentioned in the same breath as anybody when you consider his scoring, worth ethic and winning.
"Everybody has a bad game, but this guy performs all the time."
Perhaps that is why Bonner, the 10th-leading scorer in Florida history, is at times overlooked. He's so solid and so robotic, that he's just been taken for granted.
