SAN JOSE, Calif. _ The U.S. Olympic Committee took a major step toward reform Saturday with the resignation of its beleaguered chief executive, Lloyd Ward.
After three months of turmoil, Ward became the latest casualty of a group whose leadership purges were starting to resemble the old Soviet Union. Ward's departure came almost a month after embattled president Marty Mankamyer quit. Five other administrators also have resigned recently.
