COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ U.S. Olympic Committee chief executive Lloyd Ward resigned Saturday afternoon after two months of controversy and turmoil with him often in the eye of the storm.
He said he hoped his resignation would "shift the focus back to the athletes and the ideals of the Olympic movement."
Ward, hired 16 months ago, resigned 25 days after USOC president Marty Mankamyer, of Colorado Springs, quit in the wake of questions about Ward's ethics and allegations she attempted to undermine his leadership.
The resignation continues the revolving door at the USOC which has seen four presidents and four CEOs since 2000.
