WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. _ When the possibility of winning the ACC regular-season championship began to come into focus for Wake Forest recently, coach Skip Prosser pulled his team together to talk about it.
"I told them then we had three weeks to work and the rest of their lives to remember," Prosser said Saturday after his 12th-ranked Deacons maintained their hold on first place with a rough 80-68 victory against Clemson at Joel Coliseum.
It's down to one week now but the goal remains the same.
"I said you're part of a group that not a lot was expected of and you'll be able to point to this experience for the rest of your lives and no one will be able to tell you that you can't do something," Prosser said.
The Deacons (21-4, 11-3) conclude the regular season with a home game Wednesday against North Carolina and a visit to N.C. State next Saturday. They can clinch at least a tie for the title with one victory. Two victories would give Wake its first outright regular-season title since 1962 after being picked sixth in the preseason poll.
Getting past Clemson (15-10, 5-8) wasn't easy or elegant.
