CHAPEL HILL, N.C. _ Underneath three NCAA title banners, North Carolina fans rushed the Smith Center floor Saturday to celebrate a 67-66 victory against sub-.500 Georgia Tech.
Surreal finish to a surreal finish.
The Tar Heels (15-13, 5-9 ACC) needed a blocked shot in the final second by Jackie Manuel, which followed two free throws from freshman Raymond Felton, which followed a 50-50 foul call that went the Tar Heels' way, which followed missed free throws by Georgia Tech's Marvin Lewis and Chris Bosh _ two of the best foul shooters in the ACC.
The Tar Heels, who trailed by 10 with less than eight minutes to play, had it under control the whole time, UNC guard Melvin Scott said.
"We've endured everything this year _ close wins, games we've given away, blowouts," Scott said. "This was a piece of cake."
Georgia Tech (12-13, 5-9) got a break with 43 seconds left, avoiding a technical when B.J. Elder called a timeout he didn't have. Officials determined a five-second call against Elder came first.
