HOMESTEAD, Fla. _ Most of the bleachers at Homestead-Miami Speedway were empty Saturday afternoon when little-known Thiago Medeiros won the pole position for Sunday's Western Union 100 of the Infiniti Pro Series.
But Medeiros knows that if he keeps turning out solid performances, the big boys of the Indy Racing League will start to notice. In the meantime, Medeiros chases his dream _ to one day join the Unsers and Andrettis.
``The IRL is a dream for everybody,'' said Medeiros, who will make his first series start at 10:15 a.m. EST on Sunday. ``We're trying to get there.''
Until then, the 20-year-old Brazilian is honing his craft on the Infiniti series, the developmental circuit in its second season.
Competing in front of IRL teams does not add too much pressure for these drivers. After all, during Saturday's qualifying, most drove around the 1.5-mile track in excess of 160 mph.
At the same time, driver Jeff Simmons said, this is not the place to mess up.
