CARLSBAD, Calif. _ Young, old, power, finesse. It didn't matter what was thrown at Tiger Woods on Saturday, the world's No.1 golfer overcame it all and will face David Toms on Sunday in the finals of the Match Play Championship.
It is the first time in the five years of the event that two top-10 players will meet in the meet in the finals.
Woods defeated Scott Hoch, 5 and 4, in Saturday morning's quarterfinals at La Costa Resort and Spa, then held off Adam Scott in an afternoon semifinal, winning on the 19 hole.
Toms defeated Jerry Kelly in the quarterfinals, 4 and 3, then sank a 9-foot putt to down Peter Lonard on the final hole to win, 1-up.
