PHILADELPHIA _ Who would you rather see more often at the First Union Center _ the New York Rangers or the Carolina Hurricanes? The New Jersey Devils or the Atlanta Thrashers?
Among the changes that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman plans for next season are more divisional games and fewer games outside the conference.
Also, Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference series will be phased in as every-other-year matchups. So, if the Flyers play at Los Angeles next season, the Kings would come to Philly the following season. No more home-and-home games outside the conference in the same season.
Instead of playing the Atlantic Division rival Rangers five times, the Flyers will play them six times next season.
It would be even better if the Flyers could play fewer games against Eastern Conference clubs in the Southeast Division, such as Carolina, and pick up more games against the Rangers and Devils.
