MEMPHIS, Tenn. _ Mike Tyson needed to dispatch Clifford Etienne convincingly Saturday night to get a second chance against heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.
He did it, knocking out Etienne just 49 seconds into their scheduled 10-round bout at the Pyramid with a single punch.
After referee Bill Clancy counted Etienne out, Tyson rushed over to pick up his fallen opponent. The former heavyweight champ then dropped to his knees and bowed several times near the center of the ring as a wildly partisan Tyson crowd cheered.
Going into the fight, one of the biggest questions was whether Tyson's new facial tattoo would be tender and vulnerable to Etienne's punches. But Etienne landed almost no blows before a devastating overhand right sent him reeling to the canvas.
