Injured right fielder Jermaine Dye had been preparing himself for the possibility of not being able to open the season long before the A's put him on the disabled list Saturday night. But it didn't hit home until Monday morning.
"I woke up and turned the TV and saw those teams playing and I just turned it off," Dye said. "I didn't want to watch it knowing I wasn't going to be able to play."
Dye, who broke his left tibia nearly six months ago, was in uniform and jogged to the third-base line during pregame introductions at Network Associates Coliseum. But when Dye will return is anyone's guess.
