When the two Maryland stars saw their junior seasons end in a semifinal meltdown against Duke in last year's Final Four, walking away was never an option. A shot at the NBA and all its potential riches would have to wait.
The goal that remained was wearing a Maryland uniform Monday night at the Georgia Dome, getting a shot at the school's first national championship. Only underdog Indiana blocked the prize.
"I kind of knew since last year, with the success we had and everything we went through, that we would get back here to this game," Baxter, the Terps' senior center, said before Maryland's 64-52 victory. "That was our goal. We've stayed here because we want to win the national title."
