Who Will Fill ITRI's Shoes?
Good job on [Steve Gold's January column, "Without Research, There is No Development," page 9] regarding ITRI and R&D. I had to re-approach it a couple of times because it hit me so hard.
Many years ago, I watched the initial evolution and development of microvias stall in the U.S. due to some entrepreneurial hoarding. Now the carpet is being pulled out from under ITRI. Wasn't ITRI the entity who generated the test data and white papers to support the technology direction and decisions for IPC? Who's going to do this now? The contract electronics manufacturers? Or our offshore rivals?
