A taxing wait: No state forms yet? You won't get one.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. _Don't keep waiting for a state income tax-form booklet if you haven't received one in the mail yet.

It isn't coming.

The Virginia Department of Taxation mails those forms only to residents who filed paper tax returns last year. The department mailed booklets in early January.

Nearly 1.5 million taxpayers filed electronically last year. That's out of 3.5 million taxpayers.

Perhaps they filed by using the state's free Internet filing program. Perhaps they used the program offered by the federal government. Perhaps they filed over the telephone. Perhaps they bought a commercial software program for their home computer. Or …
