The S.C. Senate has divvied the expected lottery pot; next, it's the House's turn.

Let's hope the House is smarter. You'll be able to tell by how much money is provided for endowed chairs. You'll be able to tell by whether the funds go to the three research universities _ USC, Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina _ or are frittered away here and there.

Let's look at all the money first. Lottery money has been promised to education; $127 million is expected annually. (This doesn't include money from the first six months or unexpected lottery revenues.)
