NORFOLK, Va. _ Distance runners will get a chance to trek under water and over four man-made islands in October when the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel becomes marathon territory.
The Trigon Bay Bridge Marathon will be the first long-distance run held at the bridge-tunnel complex, which _ at 17.6 miles _ is the largest in the world.
The terrain is unique enough to draw Dave McGillivray, race director for the Boston Marathon, as the event organizer. The Virginia Beach Neptune Festival and Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield are sponsoring the event.
