DENTON, Texas _ It's a bright but bitterly cold Thursday in January, and the members of Cross Canadian Ragweed have to get their fourth CD done _ right now.
As in HAVE TO. As in TODAY.
In the control room of Reel Time Audio _ a small but highly regarded studio in a blue-collar neighborhood of this college town 35 miles north of Fort Worth _ lead singer/guitarist/main songwriter Cody Canada is trying to get a guitar part right.
And he is not happy _ he knows, all too well, that the band has gigs booked, and that every hour in the studio is costing all of them money.
He curses under his breath. The other band members _ guitarist Grady Cross, bassist Jeremy Plato and drummer Randy Ragsdale _ are silent.
After a few tense minutes, Canada nails his part, and Plato immediately starts working on recording some bass lines.
The CD will be put to bed sometime long after midnight Friday and, after breakfast tacos at Whataburger and a few hours of sleep, the guys will once again pile into their van and roll down the highway _ to yet another bar full of college-age fans.
