WASHINGTON _ The way President Bush sees it, there are all kinds of things you can do to fight terrorism.

Rear children. Refuse illegal drugs. Help shut-ins.

Even raise cattle.

"This nation has got to eat," Bush told a convention of cattle owners. "It's in our national security interests that we be able to feed ourselves. Thank goodness we don't have to rely on somebody else's meat to make sure our people are healthy and well fed."

As Bush devotes more time to promoting his domestic agenda, he continues to cloak it in the rhetoric of war. And it has served him well: Stewardship of the war on terrorism has given Bush record approval ratings.

But some political analysts and not a few Democrats believe Bush runs the risk of politicizing the war or losing credibility with voters who don't see the connection between helping shut-ins and fighting terrorism.
