OLATHE, Kan. _ Becky Scudder scanned the list of 26 planes she was monitoring as they cruised over central Illinois, and noticed two might be on a collision course.
Scudder, an air traffic controller in Olathe, pulled the two flight paths up on a monitor. She adjusted the path of a private jet, but the computer, using red lines for the intended flight paths, showed that the planes still could crash. After a few more failed attempts, she tried to send the private jet farther north. The red flight paths on her computer screen turned green, indicating the flight path was safe.
