Feb. 28--After nine years of planning, and bickering among elected officials over funding the proposed $2 billion Schuylkill Valley Metro, a new vision was unveiled today for the rail line from Center City to Reading.
Privatize it.
Sam Katz, a two-time failed candidate for mayor of Philadelphia who is now chief executive of Greater Philadelphia First, flexed the muscles of corporate leaders and developers in support of his bold plan to resuscitate failed funding efforts for the 62-mile line.
At a Norristown news conference today, main stakeholders -- SEPTA, PennDOT and county government leaders -- were notably absent.
