Sometimes science can be surprising. According to a study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine (2001; 298-305), moderate drinkers appear to be healthier than both former drinkers and lifelong abstainers. Survey data were collected from over 3,000 members. Light-to-moderate drinkers were considered those who had 60 or fewer drinks a month and heavy drinkers were those who had more than 60 drinks a month.
