Feb. 15--The Walgreen drugstore chain has agreed to make sweeping changes in its operations as part of a settlement to prevent the sale of tobacco products to minors.
The agreement came after Walgreen turned in the worst record in an undercover sting. The investigation, conducted two years ago, involved Walgreen stores in upstate New York only, but it led to the Deerfield, Ill.-based company signing a "voluntary compliance" agreement with New Jersey and 39 other states.
The Walgreen Co. has 3,651 stores nationwide, including 58 in New Jersey.
