NORFOLK_The problem-plagued carrier John F. Kennedy is expected to begin critical sea trials next week in advance of its deployment to fight the war against terrorism, several Navy officials said.
Meanwhile, the admiral responsible for certifying readiness of the Kennedy and its accompanying battle group, Vice Adm. Cutler Dawson, commander of the 2nd Fleet, this week said he expects to give the 12,000-member, 15-ship battle group its final exam soon after the Kennedy returns from sea trials.
After that, possibly late this month, the Kennedy should be on its way to relieve the Norfolk-based carrier Theodore Roosevelt battle group.
